The 2024 tennis season is in full swing. With four new varsity faces, the Marian tennis team has new talent to bring to their duals.

The Marian Varsity tennis team consists of one senior, three juniors, one sophomore and three freshmen. Despite the loss of four seniors last season, this team is back and better than ever.

Freshman Kayla Brown has been playing tennis for eight years. She said, “It is super cool getting to be a freshman on varsity because you can get super close with all of the upperclassman teammates. Being on varsity pushes me to work hard and get better every time I step on the court.”

Her favorite memory so far is “winning my first high school tennis match and winning my first dual.” Brown’s goal this season is to “make it to state and medal, and to really grow as a player,” she said.

The other freshmen on the varsity team are Nora Fitzpatrick and Vava Shea. She said, “Being a freshman on varsity has been a big accomplishment for me. I’m really happy to be on it and play with the upperclassmen.”

Fitzpatrick said that “being a freshman on varsity has been a rewarding experience, and I think I have learned a lot from a playing perspective.”

The triple threat, Jada Vosik, Torrey McManus and Heidi Hans are the juniors on varsity. They have a total of 34 years of tennis experience between the three of them. Vosik reflects on her years playing at Marian and says, “This season is different from my other two years because half of our team is new.”

“At first, I was super nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, but after meeting the new members, I was so excited because they are all awesome,” Vosik said.

Both varsity and JV practice every day after school with drills, conditioning and games.

Although the weather isn’t always the best, this team is. Their goal is to “win state and do their very best,” Vosik said.
