Only in Orly’s brain

Column by J1 Orly Acevedo

Getting ready for an event is better than actually going. Getting ready for an event is a long therapeutic, relaxing process that boosts confidence and mood.

Getting ready at my house with no rush or stress mentally gets me prepared for who and what I’m going to run into. It is also a time where I can listen to music, FaceTime friends or family, or simply think to myself about things that are going on in my life.

The process of preparing yourself is peaceful because it’s not about the event, it’s about you. Having control over what you wear or look like can be creative and can make your day have a different, positive approach.

The anticipation is more exciting leading up to the event than the event itself. The future potential or situation that could happen could be nerve racking, so being prepared and ready for anything helps relieve that stress or nervousness.

I love to pick out outfits I feel comfortable wearing and confident in, and doing creative looks for makeup and making sure I smell good, look good, and most importantly feel good.

If I skip any of these steps and throw on whatever, I will feel unmotivated to go to the event and less like myself.

When I go to an event, it can sometimes be fun, but it won’t be as fun as it would be knowing that I am prepared and ready for what comes.
