Take a few minutes to read about our fall season senior athletes. The journalism team salutes and thanks all of these seniors for their commitment and dedication. Thank you to their families for their support as well.

GOLF

Savanna Bradley has been golfing since 1st grade.  She started playing competitively in 7th grade and has played on Marian’s team for all four years.  She has also been involved in Peer-to-Peer and participated in Operation Others. After graduation, Savanna plans to attend Iowa State University and study architecture. She also plans to continue to play golf in clubs. Her parents are Keith and Teresa Bradley.

Brooklyn Salzbrenner has been golfing since 4th grade. Brooklyn has been on Marian’s team for four years. She is a team captain on the golf team this year and serves as a Class Officer and a member of the National Honor Society. She is involved in the musical and plays, helping as a stage crew member, and is also involved in various clubs like Paw Project, Pickleball Club, Hope Squad and a member of Campus Ministry as an EMHC and Retreat Leader. Brooklyn is undecided as to where she wants to go to college but plans on studying engineering.  Her parents are Tim and Denise Salzbrenner.

Team Manager Claire Pogge has been golfing since age 8 and has been with the golf program all four years. At Marian, Claire is a Class Officer, editor of BURN Magazine, a member of National Honor Society, FBLA, Polar Plunge and Worship Choir. In addition to golf, Claire has also participated in soccer, both as a player and a team manager. She is a Freshman Retreat Leader, Lector, and a Marian Ambassador. Claire is leaning towards Auburn University for college where she plans to study either architectural engineering or construction management. She is the daughter of Erin and Joe Pogge.

SOFTBALL

Emily Berthelsen has been playing softball since she was 9 and has been in the Marian Softball program for four years.  Emily is a member of the National Honor Society and Rho Kappa, the Social Studies Honor Society. She is involved in Campus Ministry as a retreat leader and is a member of the Hope Squad. Emily plans to attend  an agricultural college and major in animal science after graduation. She is currently undecided on a school, but plans to eventually go to veterinary school and work as a large animal veterinarian. She is the daughter of Kevin and Heidi Berthelsen

Eleri Bredehoeft started playing softball at age 6 and has been in the Marian Softball program for four years. In the 2022-2023 school year, she was awarded her first Varsity Letter in Track & Field. In the 2023-2024 school year, she was awarded her first Varsity Softball letter, and was later awarded an Outstanding Track & Field Athlete for being on the Varsity team. In the 2024-2025 school year she joined CEO (Crusaders Elevating Others). She was again recognized as an Outstanding Track & Field Athlete. She qualified for State Track & Field in Discus. She went in ranked 13th and finished the meet ranked 10th. She is undecided on where she wants to go to college but she would like to major in either Athletic Training or Physical Therapy. She would like to play either Softball or Track and Field (as a thrower) at any school. Eleri is the daughter of Emily Volkert and Steve Volkert.

Brooklyn Kincaid started playing softball in 4th grade and has been in the Marian Softball program on the Varsity team for four years. She earned Honorable Mention in the Class A Omaha World Herald three times and got both an Honorable Mention and made First Team twice in the Lincoln Journal Star. She is involved in the Ping Pong Club, Young Medicine Club, Polar Plunge, Paw Project Club, Hearts of Marian and Hiking Club. She was part of Crusaders Elevating Others (CEO) for two years and has been a Marian Ambassador for all four years. She was part of the State Championship team in 2022. She is committed to South Dakota State University to continue her athletic and academic career and she is planning on majoring in nursing and minoring in Spanish. She is the daughter of Dawn and Joel Kincaid.

Alaina Kroll started playing softball when she was 4. She has been part of Marian Softball for three years. Alaina is part of National Honor Society and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. She was nominated by her peers to be a member of Hope Squad, a peer-to-peer program for mental health and suicide prevention. Alaina is a member of Paw Project, Hiking Club and Film Club.  She also serves as a Network Newspaper opinion page editor. Her freshman year, she was part of the team that won the Nebraska State Softball Championship in October 2022. Outside of school and softball, she is a certified lifeguard. Alaina is planning to study psychology at Loyola Marymount University or Creighton. Alaina is the daughter of Becky Kroll.

Keely Robbins has been playing softball since she was 3.  She has been part of Marian Softball for three years. She has been All Metro second team for two years and has two Varsity letters in both Softball and Wrestling. She holds two Marian records for Wrestling and will be on the team for her fourth season this winter.  She has also been part of CEO (Crusaders Elevating Others) for two years. After Marian, Keely is committed to Iowa Western to play softball. She plans to major in psychology with a minor in social work or criminal justice. She is the daughter of Cara Robbins and David Robbins.

CROSS COUNTRY

Kathryn Blair started running on the Marian Cross Country team as a ninth grader and she has been on the team ever since. She is involved in many clubs and activities at Marian, including Sole Sisters, Hiking Club and Hearts of Marian. Kathryn is not exactly sure where and what she wants to do in college. However she would like to go to Creighton University and either become an occupational therapist or a second grade teacher.  Her parents are Mark and Abby Blair.



Ava DeSmet has been running in the Marian Cross Country program for two years. After playing volleyball for Marian her freshman and sophomore years, Ava joined the cross country team her junior year where she competed at state cross country. She is also part of the Marian track team, lettering both her freshman and junior year. Ava is a founding ambassador for Hearts of Marian and an ambassador for the Ping Pong Club. She also participates in many clubs at Marian including World Language Club, Marian Ambassadors, Service Site Connections, Sole Sisters and Campus Ministry. Within Campus Ministry she has been in Shadow Crew, Worship Choir, Freshman Retreat Leader, an EMHC and a Service Site Leader. Outside of Marian, Ava is very involved in her community. She was nominated to be part of the Sweetheart Program for the American Heart Association and she is an active member and leader within her youth group at Saint Margaret Mary Parish. Ava plans to attend Iowa State University, majoring in industrial engineering and minoring in business or French. Her parents are Chris and Michele DeSmet.

Niamh McGarry has been running Cross Country for four years.  She is involved in Track and Field, National Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.  She serves a Network student newspaper news page editor.  Niamh is undecided on what she wants to study and where she wants to attend college.  She is the daughter of Amy and Sean McGarry.

Julia Walenz has been running since 8th grade.  She has been part of the Marian Cross Country program all four years. Julia is involved in Ping Pong Club, Campus Ministry and Sole Sister’s Club. She is also part of National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society. Julia was part of the M-Beat Broadcasting program and earned a medal at State Journalism last spring. Julia is not sure where she would like to go for college but she does want to study something in the math or science field. Julia’s parents are Steven and Elizabeth Walenz.

Maeve Rose Wharton began running in 6th grade. She has been part of the Marian Cross Country program all four years. She is president of the Student Board and president of Marian’s chapter of the National Honor Society, as well as a member of the FIAT and the Freshman Retreat core teams for Campus Ministry. She currently serves as the Network Newspaper Front Page Editor and is member of Quill & Scroll, the International Honor Society for high school journalists. She was recently named a National Merit Commended Scholar. She plans to attend college, but remains undecided on where or what she will study.  Maeve’s parents are Martha and Marc Wharton.

Faridah Zouladeny started running as a ninth grader and has been in Marian’s Cross Country Program all four years. Faridah has succeeded in multiple honors/AP classes like AP Psychology, AP Human Geography, AP Biology, H French, H Independent Research, and H Academic Decathalon. She plans to major in psychiatry or radiology, most likely at Creighton University. Faridah’s parents are Balkissa and  Harouna Zouladeny.

VOLLEYBALL

Addy Janke started playing volleyball in first grade and has been in the Marian Volleyball Program for four years. Addy has been involved in Campus Ministry as a retreat leader and has served as an Ambassador, Big Sister and member of the Crusaders Elevating Others (CEO) program. She has been a Field Day cheerleader since freshman year. Addy has also been inducted into Marian’s National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, the Math Honor Society; the National Science Honor Society; the National Spanish Honor Society; and Rho Kappa, Social Studies Honor Society. Addy plans on attending Creighton University to study finance. She is the daughter of Grant and Sara Janke.

Alena Kehm
has been playing volleyball since third grade. This is her fourth year in the Marian Volleyball Program. Alena is a Class Officer, secretary of National Honor Society, and is the co-managing editor of the Marian student Network newspaper. She is also active in Track and Field, Crusaders Elevating Others (CEO), Marian Ambassadors, Big Sisters, Debate, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National Science Honor Society, Marian’s Chapter of Quill and Scroll, the Journalism Honor Society and Campus Ministry. Alena also represented Marian on a service trip to the Dominican Republic.  Alena is undecided on where she will go to college, but plans to enter a pre-med track, or major in journalism. She is the daughter of Paula and Joseph Kehm.

Sadie Jane Menicucci started playing volleyball in second grade. This is her fourth year in the Marian Volleyball Program. Sadie represents her class as a Class Officer. She is on the Ambassador Core Team, Big Sister Core Team, and is in Mu Alpha Theta, the National Math Honor Society; National Science Honor Society; National Spanish Honor Society; National English Honor Society and after her time on the M-Beat Broadcasting Team, a member of Quill & Scroll, the International Honor Society for High School Journalists. Sadie is also involved in Campus Ministry and has been selected to lead Freshmen, Sophomore and Senior Retreats. She has also been involved in Crusaders Elevating Others (CEO) and Culinary Club. Sadie has received the Outstanding Sophomore Award and the Marian Identity Award. Sadie is undecided on where she will attend college next year but plans to study something in the medical field related to biology or on the pre-dental track. Sadie’s parents are John and Betsy Menicucci.

Josie Piernicky started playing volleyball in third grade and has been in the Marian Volleyball Program all four years. Josie is a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, National Science Honor Society and Rho Kappa, the National Social Studies Honor Society. Josie plans to attend Kansas State in the fall. She is currently undecided in her studies but is interested in civil engineering. Her parents are Jaime and Michael Piernicky.

Helen Grace Simpson has been playing volleyball since first grade. Helen has played volleyball all four years at Marian and participated in Track and Field during her freshman year. She has been part of the Culinary Club for multiple years, part of the Big Sisters program, and been both a Freshman and Sophomore Retreat Leader in Campus Ministry.  Helen is committed to play volleyball at Cornell College in Iowa and undecided on a major. Her parents are Andy and Jody Simpson.

Annabella Suljuzović has been playing volleyball since 4th grade. She has been in Maria’s Volleyball Program all four years.  When she was a ninth grader, she also competed in Track and Field.  Annabella is undecided about her plans after graduation, but at the moment is thinking about nursing or aviation. Her parents are Dražen and Rebecca Suljuzović.
