Enthusiasm In Room 205 Inspires the Marian Community

Inspirational Feature by J1 Reporter Emily Evans

It’s 2:25 p.m. Students anxiously stir in their seats as the bell rings, beginning the last class of the day. The students’ eyes are weary. Their faces are worn and tired from a week of stress.

The teacher begins a lecture about Edgar Allen Poe and his gothic style of literature. Her eyes light up when talk of rhyme, alliteration and supernatural beings project from her lips. Slowly students’ eyes replicate her own. Every member of the room has a look of fascination transfixed upon their face and discussions break out in an array of opinions and thoughts.

Time floats on effortlessly and in the blink of an eye the 3:10 bell rings. The students look around, puzzled as to how the class could have sailed by. They parade from the room with smiles on their faces and a little more skip in their step.

Ms. Susie Sisson has taught at Marian for 22 years and she has yet to lose her dedication and drive. She not only teaches, but inspires students with her positive attitude and enthusiasm. Sisson also knows how important education is.

“I fully believe in and support the mission of Marian. I also believe that education can change a person’s life.” Sisson said.

At Marian, she is a driving force in the student leadership workshops.

“I am a firm believer that you can be taught to be a leader. You don’t have to be born with it,” Sisson said.

Several students have attended the workshops to better their leadership skills and recognize the qualities they possess.

“The leadership workshops have helped me to be more confident in the leadership skills I have,” sophomore Julia Hingorani said.

Sisson not only gives inspiration, but draws inspiration from the people who surround her. Sisson explained, “My students challenge me every day and their excitement, excites me.” Sisson has inspired and taught more than 2,000 students in her career.

Sisson inspires me with her devotion to students and teaching. She is fully committed to developing students into confident, passionate leaders. Inspiration is a two way street with this bright-eyed and motivated woman.image1.PNG-2
