Network seniors Noelle Pick and Mary Kiscoan stay after the Keynote at the Media Magic National High School Journalism Convention in Orlando on Nov. 12, to interview Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated.
Staples talked to the 6,000 high school journalists about his career and about finding your dream job with your passion intact. He encouraged the young reporters to build their online portfolio starting now and to create your own dream job.
One of his best pieces of advice during interviews was to get the source talking. He said, “Keep them talking until they forget it is an interview. It is only then when you’ll get really good information.” Pick and Kiscoan later used that advice when they competed in the National Write Off Contest, sponsored by the Journalism Education Association and the National Scholastic Press Association.
