Opinion by J1 Reporter Maddie Mingo

I am going to play my heart out in every game because my team needs me.

I am going to put my all into this assignment so that I can feel proud of what I have accomplished.

I am going to work hard and give my whole effort because the legacy I leave will show that I lived up to my potential.

Too many people settle for the average grade, and in doing so, never live up to the person God inspired for them to be. Perhaps they lack motivation or a will to put forth their effort. Without change they will forever drive the wrong way on a one-way road. Nothing good can result from that.

Motivation to succeed surfaces in a multitude of places. People just need to stop staring at their devices and find that inspiration.

Run a mile after school because of the great feeling afterwards, the health factor, the refreshed feeling of your mind ready to take on homework, the pride your parents will feel in you taking initiative, and the amazement your friends will show you.

Even homework brings motivation. Finishing your homework gets a grade, but giving it your best effort results in a grade, pride in accomplishment and probably a longer-lasting knowledge on the subject. Why anyone would settle for the minimum lies beyond my knowledge.

God asks that we give our best for Him, and for those around us. “Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best” (Colossians 3:22). God gives us the strength and ability so that we may put forth our whole effort and live His mission.

Those who settle for less lack the heart to live up to their potential. They bask in laziness, convenience, and complaining their whole lives. Without motivation, they strive for no goal, and have no reason to give their best.

God has given everyone a chance to live differently. With His help, everyone can reach their potential, everyone can find motivation, and everyone can leave a legacy.

Take fire and aim for success, because anything less would fall below your best.
