According to Buzzfeed’s list of ‘23 Reasons You Need To Celebrate Galentine’s Day,’ the holiday is deemed as a whole day for girls to get together with their gal-pals, cherish fond memories, and talk about how much they adore each other, prefera- bly in song.

If Buzzfeed isn’t an impressive enough source, ctional “Parks and Recreation” television star and idol of many, Leslie Knope, who coined the name for the holiday, claimed “Feb. 13 is only the greatest day of the year,” and with all the hype about this estrogen-filled holiday, it’s hard to disagree.

However, the February Network Survey shows that, 48.2 percent of the 195 responses do not celebrate Galentine’s Day and 10.3 percent do not understand it. Marian is an all-girl’s school full of love and excitement that takes just about every opportunity to celebrate anything, so this holiday seems like something that would be all the hype in these halls.

Senior Rachael Steier celebrated Galentine’s Day cooking up some festive concoctions for her and her friends. They chowed on pink waffles for breakfast.

“Michaela Moriarty made us a heart-shaped cake,” Steier said. The group of choir girls spent the day bonding over laughs and some deli- cious treats. “It was a great group, and we all make each other laugh a lot, which is always fun,” Steier said.

The day isn’t only about spending time with human gal pals, but instead any friend a girl appreciates in your life! Junior Amalea Poulos is a fan of Galentine’s Day because she said that all of her friends hold a place in her heart. However this year, she decided to celebrate with a new furry friend.

Her family decided to adopt a puppy on Feb. 13. The little pup’s name
is Luna, and “she is just the sweetest little pea I ever did see,” Poulos said. She already has a pet bunny and was not really expecting another pet. “I usually just straight chill with some Reese’s that my mom gifts me, so this was a nice change,” Poulos said.

Cute puppies and yummy treats aren’t the only way to celebrate. After all, the day is dedicated to celebrating a girl’s sisters! In that spirit, a gaggle of freshman girls celebrated their friendship at Champion’s banquet area with a fun brunch.

“We make cookies and cupcakes and talked about Field Day the whole time,” freshman Hallie Falk said.

Freshman Laura Tooley was also in attendance and was immensely proud of the decorations she helped prepare. “We made
a balloon heart for a photo booth to take pictures in front of. It look me, like, four hours,” Tooley said. The girls both exclaimed that the event was entertaining and something they hope to continue as friends.

Overall, Galentine’s Day seems to be a celebrated and appreciated holiday for those who choose to partake. Whether it be a date with one’s gal pals, or cuddling up with a cute furry friend, mark Feb. 13, 2017 on the calendar now. It’s just a day for ladies to celebrate ladies. As Leslie Knope would say, “It’s wonderful and should be a national holiday.”
