Their bond is deeper than skin. They don’t know how to quit. They were made to fly. This year, Marian Momentum show choir is bigger than ever; and ready to show the world exactly what they are made of.
The 2017-2018 show choir consists of 32 girls, making it the biggest show choir Marian ha
s ever had. The group has grown substantially from its first year in 2015, with only 18 girls.
Morrissey hopes to include a band in this year’s show in addition to pianist Mr. Tim DiBlasi. This will elevate the choir’s sound and bring the team to a new level of intensity. The team is hoping to gather trumpets, saxophones, guitars and other instruments to compliment Momentum’s sound.
This year’s costumes are truly golden. The outfit includes a gold and multi-colored sequin dress, and a “fiery” red skirt cover. The costume will also feature a tear-away design that blends seamlessly with the theme of the show.
After months of summer preparation, it is rewarding for Morrissey to see the group come out of the gate running. “I’ve been really excited for our sound,” Morrissey said, “I think everybody just has so much energy. I’m really excited about the songs we have picked, and how everything is coming along already.”
Sophomore Momentum member Anne Hiatt is thrilled for her very first show choir season. “I am most excited about being on a team with all these amazing people and spending time bonding with them,” Hiatt said.
Along with creating bonds, Hiatt hopes “to gain knowledge and advice from all the upperclassmen and gain new friends through show choir.”
From the set to the musicians, to the costumes and choir themselves, Momentum is ready to start the year with a bang. Competitions and showcase performances are already lined up on the calendar starting in mid-January. Momentum is ready to take on the show choir world, one sequin at a time.
