Just like Marian girls, the four different seasons each bring something unique to the table. Each season offers their own activities, like pumpkin patches in fall, or ice skating in winter.

The popularity of the four seasons differ throughout Marian. A whopping 56.7 percent of students prefer fall over the rest. 27.7 percent favor summer over the coolness of the other seasons. 10.6 percent prefer winter, and only five percent prefer spring.

Most of those who prefer summer look forward to the season for obvious reasons. There’s no school, which means no homework. There’s more time for fun and relaxation. It’s the opportune time to make money and see your friends, without the added stress of school.

For junior Coventry Thompson, summer takes the cake. Summer stands out to her because of her family vacations to Florida. They jet out for two months, and “it’s a nice break from school,” Thompson said.

Sophomore Molly Herek, however, prefers fall over summer. With the cooler weather comes her favorite holiday, Halloween. The best costume she’s ever seen was her brother, who really turned on the scare factors and dressed as… you guessed it…grapes! When Herek isn’t trick or treating, she enjoys the cozy weather with her friends by going to pumpkin patches with her pals.

Once the weather turns cold, freshman Molly Regan is gearing up to go outside. Despite her lack of skill, she loves to ice skate. When Regan is not tearing it up on the ice, she’s playing in the snow with Stella, her yellow lab. The possibility of school being canceled is always on the tip of students’ tongues during winter. “It’s fun to wake up and see that it’s snowing outside,” Regan said. When it snows, she can go sledding.

Freshman Harper Cowles comes out of hibernation when spring has finally sprung. April showers don’t just make May flowers, they also make Cowles smile. The weather is perfect for her since “It’s warm but it’s not hot.” Cowles takes the weather in by doing her favorite spring activity: sitting outside.

Marian girls love all seasons, but there’s always something to look forward to as the seasons change. Whether it’s ice skating or apple picking, there’s always something to do in Nebraska.

Seasons also have an effect on school life. Whether spring is referred to as “Field Day season” or the early days of fall are “WAT season” there’s always something to look forward to inside the Marian halls.

With April showers, the busy season of Field Day blooms. Marian comes out of hibernation and defrosts with the excitement of the upcoming season. Everyone is scared to miss school in winter, for fear they’ll miss out on Surprise Day. In fall, girls look forward to Gnimocemoh and scary movies. In summer, everyone’s a little more anxious to get out of school, instead of looking forward to the upcoming finals.
