Over the course of the Walk-A-Thon (WAT) season, each grade level often tries to create their own fundraisers or set up kick back nights at restaurants to raise money for their grade. This year, the Student Board members wanted to try something different: a pancake breakfast fundraiser whose profits would go to the school as a whole. The goal of the breakfast was to support WAT while uniting classes and showing community.

About a month prior to the breakfast, Stu-Bo members started brainstorming different fundraiser ideas for the school year. Junior Stu-Bo member, Darian Jones, said that they were already planning having a pancake breakfast each quarter, but the first one was not originally going to be for WAT.  “We decided to move the breakfast a week forward to use the money made to give back to WAT, ”  Jones said.  From then on, they organized the details and figured out who was bringing what supplies and made sure everything was prepped before the breakfast. The Stu-Bo members bought and donated all of the ingredients and supplies needed for the event.

The breakfast took place on Sept. 20 and it was a success, around 100 girls came in on their late start to enjoy pancakes with friends. Jones’s favorite part was “getting to spend time with my fellow Stu-Bo girls and getting to know them better,” since this is her first year as a board member. She also loved seeing the designs that the seniors put into their pancakes.  The breakfast helped show the value of community by bringing all classes together to support WAT.
