The debate of apple juice versus orange juice has towered over humanity since the beginning of time. The debate actually begins in the Garden of Eden with Adam and Eve. A simple apple may have destroyed humanity’s chance at eternal life with God with no pain or suffering. Oranges had nothing to do with that.

The misfortune that falls upon apples doesn’t only come from temptations of sin but also the lack of health benefits. According to ginabnutrition.com, orange juice holds higher nutritional value over apple juice. Orange juice is high in vitamin C, whereas apple juice is lower in vitamins and minerals and higher in sugar. But apple juice also contains vitamins that can help with skin and healthy blood clotting.

In a world full of things to debate about, apple juice versus orange juice is a major one in today’s society. Some may argue apple juice is sweeter, therefore the better option. Some also may say that the tartness of orange juice blows apple juice off the tree.

Of course, some people’s lives may not be based completely on what’s highest in vitamins, but rather what’s tastiest. Where do Marian girls stand on the everlasting debate? Some are very passionate about their stance on the issue, especially senior Chizzy Okolo.

Okolo falls on the apple juice side of the spectrum. The sweetness appeals to her, and she dislikes the texture of orange juice. “Orange juice can have pulp, and it’s chunky,” Okolo said.

Certain drinks can hold sentimental value for people. For Okolo, her mom used to give her apple juice after school, and it was a staple drink for her when she was little. Despite her love for apple juice, Okolo actually hates apples in their original form. Regardless of pressure from those around her, her dislike is here to stay.

Sophomore Avery Peklo falls on the other end of the juice spectrum. For her, orange juice reigns supreme. The appearance of apple juice throws Peklo off. The clearness “boggles my mind,” Peklo said. She also thinks apple juice doesn’t feel like it belongs at breakfast, but orange juice does.

Peklo holds some nostalgia around orange juice. Her staple sick-day meal is orange juice and ramen noodles. Just like Okolo, Peklo prefers the opposite fruit to the juice she prefers. She likes actual apples over oranges.

Marian preferences hold true to the national preferences in this juicy debate. In the Network’s Google survey, 72.1 % of Marian girls prefer apples over orange juice, and 27.9 % prefer orange juice. In a national survey from 2019, apple juice was ranked as the most liked juice flavor, with orange juice coming in as a close second.

The debate over the better juice may never end, but at least it makes for a good conversation. Some may be a little more passionate about it, like Okolo, who says that “anyone who thinks orange juice is better is wrong” or like Peklo, who says “everyone prefers one, but all the reasons are different.” Of course, there’s nothing wrong with a little healthy debate, although it may get a little juicy.
