If you have a Costco-addicted mother, you likely know the wonders of Costco’s pumpkin pies. Every fall season, Costco sells over 6 million of these pies between September and December to their loyal members.

More than a third of these pies are sold just in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. This shows the work Costco has to put in just to keep up with the demand of its members.

The pies weigh a surprising three and a half pounds and have a diameter of twelve inches. The favorite part of them for most members is the amazing cost of $6.99. Compared to most other grocery stores, you definitely get the most bang for your buck at Costco. The price hasn’t changed for the past couple years, so it has made the pies an attractive and affordable substitute for those who don’t have the time or patience for baking a pie from scratch.

Last year, the bakery of the Costco located on 120th and Dodge was closed. However, Costco recognized how important these pies were to their business and shipped over pies they made at the La Vista location.

Pie-lovers across Nebraska hound the three Costco locations in Omaha, La Vista, and Lincoln just to get a taste of these coveted pies. They provide an easy compromise for those who don’t want to get into a fight with the in-laws about who’s making dessert for Thanksgiving.

According to a survey of 114 Marian girls, most enjoy pumpkin pies. Only 14% of the students say that they don’t like Costco pumpkin pies.

Costco only uses one kind of pumpkin in their pies, Dickinson pumpkins. They are grown exclusively in Illinois and sold to Costco in canned form. The grocery store goes through over 1.2 million cans at the peak of pumpkin pie season.

The iconic pumpkin pies are only semi-homemade in order to help cut down costs. Each crust is hand pressed, but the pie is filled by a device. This change took place in 2017, where the pie filling used to be ladled by hand.

Costco has enabled many families to enjoy the tradition of having pumpkin pie together for the holidays. The next time it’s your turn to bring dessert to Thanksgiving and you’re running out of time, consider going to Costco for a pie that will be a sure hit with your relatives.

  1. My favorite part of this story was the graphic! It was really easy to understand but still unique.

  2. I thought it was so funny because that day my mom brought home a Costco pumpkin pie and said some of the same things from the article!

This article was really fun to read. My mom is one to go to Costco a lot, so that’s why it caught my eye… 🙂 It was super informational, too.
