In recent years, podcasts have skyrocketed in popularity. In 2022, 100 million people listened to a podcast in the U.S. alone according to Forbes. Podcasts are like books in the sense that there is a genre for everyone.
YouTube personality Emma Chamberlain created her podcast “Anything Goes” in 2019. Though hers definitely wasn’t the first podcast created by an influencer, it quickly garnered attention and found a devoted fan base.
The podcast even reached fourth on Spotify Charts. The podcast covers the trials and tribulations of growing up and offers reflection on a variety of topics.
Podcasts are unique because they allow content creators to operate in a longer format environment that is able to display the person’s character, arguably better than a 10-minute YouTube video.
Content creator Brittany Broski, who rose to fame for her comedy videos on TikTok, has also begun a podcast, aptly named “The Broski Report.”
The podcast details an array of topics, often pertaining to pop culture and anecdotes presented in a lighthearted and hilarious manner. That being said, Broski is not afraid to touch on serious topics and current world events and offer her own insight on the issue.
“The Broski Report is a good time and covers unique story lines, but it’s not boring or repetitive. It covers news and serious topics but also focuses on comedy, it’s a great time!” senior Lilly McAndrews said.
The great thing about podcasts is that there is something for everyone. For those looking for something more spooky, true crime podcasts are sure to leave you terrified.
“Crime Junkie” is a true crime podcast created by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat in 2017. The podcast covers an array of crimes.
“It’s typically about murders, but it also covers missing people and cold cases. They talk about all of the evidence,” junior Mary McKay said.
NPR’s (National Public Radio) “All Things Considered” podcast covers current events in a unique way. NPR looks at all sides of an issue, giving the listener the tools to form an opinion by themselves.
NPR is also singular in the fact that it operates without a government or corporation backing it, and is in complete control of the content put out. This podcast first aired in 1971 and is still on air today. The podcast is listened to by over 11 million people every week.
Podcasts are a great way to brush up on current events or to brighten up the day.
In an ever- increasingly busy world, podcasts are unique because they can be consumed while listeners are also completing other tasks yet are still able to educate and entertain.
