If there was only one food I could bring with me to an abandoned island there is not a shadow of doubt that it would be sushi. Whether it would be spicy tuna, sweet eggplant, or a tasty rainbow roll is yet to be decided. However, I do know that the delicious menu at Umami Asian Cuisine in Bellevue Ne- braska would not be left off the list.

As previously men- tioned, I love sushi. I make it a priority to go to sushi restaurants in the different places I’ve visited. Mizumi in Las Vegas, Ryoshi in Cancun Mexico, and now Umami Asian Cuisine are among some of my favorite su- shi restaurants I’ve tried.

On Thursday Feb. 8, I took a trip out to Bel- levue to eat at Umami Asian Cuisine located at 1504 Galvin Road. The building and the interior of the restaurant are nothing special, however delicious food was waiting for me inside.

The first thing I ordered was a drink; simply called “Japanese Soda”($3.95) on the menu in the strawberry flavor. After ordering soda, I had some eda- mame ($5.25) for an appetizer before ordering sushi as my main course of the night. The edamame was pretty standard; since I ordered the plain salted flavor.

When it was time to order I settled on an order of Rainbow Rolls ($13.50) Spicy Tuna ($6) and Peanut Avocado rolls ($5). Rainbow Rolls are crab rolls with an assortment of raw fish topping each roll, Spicy Tuna was a tuna roll topped with a slice of raw jalapeño, and finally the peanut avocado was a vegetarian roll with seasoned peanuts and avocados. I ended up sharing my meal with my father, whom I was eating out with. Although I was less adventurous with my sushi order than normal, this order did not fail me in the least bit.

Although all of my orders came to my table at one time, I tried the rainbow rolls first. The unique ocean-like taste of the various raw fish topping the rainbow rolls mixed with the wasabi and soy sauce created a delicious flavor combination. I finished this order very quickly, a clear sign that this was my favorite sushi dish of the night.

The next order I tried was their Spicy Tuna rolls. This style of sushi is an old favorite of mine because I am a huge fan of any kind of spice; so much so that many spicy foods no longer have a strong taste to me. However, this dish packed a spicy punch that made it super enjoyable.

The peanut avocado roll was the most unique one of my orders; an order I have never seen in another sushi restaurant. This roll was a brilliant twist of sweet and savory, creating a super unique taste perfect for anyone who wishes to have a yummy vegetarian dish at Umami.

Umami is not my favorite sushi restaurant I’ve been to; it’s second to Ryoshi in Cancun Mexico, however it is a great choice for anyone seeking quality, unique sushi in the Omaha area.

Whether you are vegetarian, new to sushi, or a more brave customer seeking a thrilling taste, Umami Asian Cuisine in Bellevue, Nebraska is a great choice.
