Students have been buzzing with excitement over the past few weeks as the school’s annual Walk-A-Thon fundraiser approaches. Student Board members have been hard at work planning for the event.

The Student Board plays a vital role in organizing the event. STUBO begins working in early July by finding sponsors and planning the shirts and theme. Their efforts continue all the way up until the big day, managing tasks such as bake sales, student fundraisers, and encouraging the school to keep raising money.

The Student Board works together as a whole to make major Walk-A-Thon decisions, such as the theme, shirt design, and prizes for each grade. Senior Darian Jones, Student Board Vice President and chair of Walk-A-Thon, said, “I love STUBO because we are a group that works together for everything, and it allows all grades to collaborate.”

One major planning change the Student Board implemented this year was bringing ties back to Field Day. After noticing that the school wasn’t raising as much money as hoped, the Student Board decided to ask Principal Mrs. Susie Sullivan about linking Walk-A-Thon back to Field Day.

Student Board Co-Moderator Ms. Jessica Abel said, “Field Day is a driving force of the class’s competition, and linking Walk-A-Thon back to Color Block gives students a greater incentive to raise money.” This change sparked enthusiasm among students and yielded positive results, as the school’s goal was surpassed while students kept the competition friendly.

Overall, the Student Board’s hard work and planning made for a successful event that brought Marian girls together as a community.
