Marian students raise money for Walk-a-Thon (WAT) and show their school spirit by reflecting the Core Values.

While on the surface there is excitement surrounding benefits for beating the $105,000 WAT goal, the real prize is the showing of Marian core values throughout the month. “I think one of the most important things about it is that the girls are raising money to help the scholarship fund,” Sr. Jackie Thorn said. The more money students raise, the more students can stay at Marian and the more students can become part of the Crusader family.

Though there’s competition among grades to meet separate goals, teamwork and community were necessities to reach the result of $152,940. On a deeper level, the core values are the structure to how students meet the goal as a whole.

Throughout the month of WAT, students raised money as a community to serve current and future Marian girls. “We don’t want any girl not to be able to come to Marian if they can’t afford it,” Sr. Jackie said.

Sr. Jackie said that the most rewarding thing about WAT is that students get to do what God inspires them to do in helping girls get a better education. “That’s spirituality when they’re following God’s plan,” she said.

WAT is an exciting time for the students, however it should not be forgotten that the purpose of the labor is to reach the school goal so girls in need can continue attending school at Marian.
