When Marian girls hear “dessert,” there are smiles on their faces and a long line. Sweet treats at Marian, such as ice cream, bring the girls together. Waiting in long lines creates conversation, which creates a bond in the Marian cafeteria.

Bob Hurtado, the Food Services Manager, has been working in the cooking industry since 1995. At Marian, he works hard to keep the students healthy and satisfied with what lunch and dessert they purchase. He takes peoples opinions and suggestions into consideration when thinking about adding new desserts to the menu. Hurtado hinted that there is talk about adding cinnamon rolls as a regular option soon because of student interest.

Hurtado cares about the lunch entrees and dessert he provides, especially because he understands that lunch and dessert is often a student’s favorite part of the day.

Stacy Dvorak, who works for the Hurtados, actually manages the desserts Marian girls immediately get into line for when they finish their meal. Although she is not technically a Marian employee, she works hard for students to manage food and distribution. Making desserts is one of the many things in the cafeteria that Dvorak enjoys doing, but takes some time. Many desserts are put out for students or faculty to enjoy such as cake, brownies, a variety of cookies and most importantly, ice cream.

Sophomore Mallory Mowat said, “Ice cream at Marian is my favorite dessert option, and I love to get it.” Mowat, as well as many other students, appreciate the ice cream option at Marian and use it daily to its fullest potential. Students are fortunate to have these desserts, with caring people willing to make and share them.
