Walk-A-Thon season rolls around and reminders to donate and bring in items for the bake sale are constant. Everyone puts in their part to reach the common goal of raising money for tuition assistance, but some go above and beyond to help out.

One homeroom far exceeded their goal.

Mr. Chris Dziadus’s junior homeroom raised 430.71% of their goal by the third deadline. At first, he reminded his classroom as normal to bring in money, but after learning that the teacher whose homeroom brings in the most money gets a day off, his reminders become more adamant.

Another reason this tactic may have worked is his popularity as a teacher. “Mr. D. always makes his classes super fun. I think that’s why people love his classes so much,” junior Katherine Dietz said. It is safe to assume that students who take his classes want him to enjoy a day off.

Additionally, since Juniors have more job opportunities available to them than sophomores or freshmen, it may be easier to bring in Walk-A-Thon money that they have worked for, even if it is just a few dollars. This may have also contributed to Dziadus’s homeroom exceeding their goal.

When Walk-A-Thon comes back to encourage students to bring in money to help their peers, some may bring in loose change or a few dollars, but Dziadus and his homeroom have shown that with some encouragement and a common goal, almost anything can be achieved.
