After weeks of anticipation and debate, the annual Walk-A-Thon theme was announced and the halls of Marian were filled with ambition to raise the most money. Many girls often find themselves wondering many things about WAT, for example, how the theme is chosen and how every year the party exceeds their expectations.
Every year, the Marian Student Board gets together over the summer and decides the Walk-A-Thon theme. Most Marian students think that the themes are on rotation. This is not true, however there is a list of possible theme ideas and every year the Student Board tries to spice things up by changing up prizes, incentives, and activities that will be held during the morning. Ms. Jessica Abel, the Student Board co-moderator, who works behind the scenes on all things WAT, says that she is hoping to “shift into more of a rotation of themes” so that every year you get a new theme to experience and never repeat.

Marian students might not understand the amount of work put into the Walk-A-Thon theme every year. Even though it takes only 30 minutes to come up with the idea of the theme, the overall planning and scheduling takes a lot of time. The T-shirts need to be ordered; the decorations and the activities have to be planned appropriately, and so much more. The theme helps give the event a particular energy and feeling, as it is basically the core of the whole event. The theme is what gets the students going and makes them excited to spend the day with their friends.
