Marian students thrive on competition and the value of the prizes on the line only fuels the desire to win. The results for a fundraiser are strongly affected by what students have to work for.

Restoring Walk-A-Thon to having ties to color block again was what was the biggest motivation for Marian students. The grade totals and percentages rose drastically after students found out that WAT would have an impact on colors chosen for Field Day. “Our class is much more motivated and it brings more spirit and intensity and makes it more fun!” Junior Sadie Menicucci said.

Some Marian students are bribed with donuts or other sweet treats in order to get homerooms to raise more money and to raise total percentages.

Other prizes that are given in Marian’s race to their total are raffle baskets. Students make themed baskets and sell raffle tickets for a few dollars which are then announced at the end of the week. The same goes to the weekly Squishmallow raffle.

Prizes are also given by the administration themselves. Sweatpants for the month of January were given to the students for reaching the class goal. This also included class goals like the senior privilege that was given to Juniors for accomplishing their goal. If a student raises more than $200 then they get a day off school.

Overall these prizes are put in place to motivate us in order to accomplish an overall total as a school. The better the prize, the faster we raise money.
