The microwave privileges are being abused by students every day. Microwaves allow students to enjoy their food from home, but students and staff have recognized that they are not always used correctly. Here are some friendly reminders that are necessary as microwave use has not been up to the Marian community’s standards this year.
Sophomore Fatima Sani Ali said that when she used to clean the microwaves for work study, they would be “disgusting and broken.” She explained how some of them were unplugged and wouldn’t turn on. Sani Ali advises girls to bring a napkin with them every time they use the microwave just in case they have any accidental spills or messes to clean up. She thinks this would really help not only the work study students but also students who use the microwaves next.
Juniors Lauren Camp and Josie Piernicky unanimously agreed that people have to be aware of when their microwave time is over. The girls explained how annoying it is to have to wait many long minutes for someone to come back for their food when it has been done heating up for a while.

Sophomore Molly Kinney who usually brings her lunch thinks that the microwaves are “an amazing resource because I like to enjoy my leftovers or my homemade lunch.” However, she also pointed out that when she uses them, most of the time they aren’t in the best condition.
Mrs. Katie Herek, a lunchroom supervisor, also explained that taking your food out early can be harmful because that is what sets off the never ending beeping noises.
The microwaves are a helpful resource for Marian girls to be able to enjoy their lunches from home. Here are some tips and reminders to help with microwave etiquette:
- Wait in line patiently and don’t try to cut
- Do not leave your food unattended in the microwave
- Bring a napkin in case of any spills or mess
- Be careful and make sure to use the microwave correctly
- Enjoy your lunch!
