“Lady Bird” is one of those films that resonates deeply with anyone who has experienced navigating the turbulent waters of growing up. Released on Nov. 3, 2017, the film has a run-time of 1 hour and 34 minutes, falls under the comedy-drama genre and is classified as R-rated.  

Directed by Greta Gerwig who is know for focusing on character driven and coming-of-age stories, the movie follows Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson, played by Saoirse Ronan as she takes on her senior year of high school in 2002. She dreams of escaping her small town life in Sacramento and moving to the East Coast to break free from what she perceives as a mundane life surrounded by peers who she sees as superficial. The film explores themes of class struggles, family dynamics, independence but most importantly, the quest for self-identity

The soundtrack featuring songs from artists such as Alanis Morissette and Dave Matthews band add another layer of nostalgia to the film. “Lady Bird” has been critically acclaimed with a 99% on rotten tomatoes and has been praised for its heartfelt storytelling and take on adolescence. You can watch this film with a Max subscription, a Hulu premium subscription or an Amazon Prime premium subscription.

What sets this film apart from other coming of age films is its authenticity. “Lady Bird” masterfully captures the essence of growing up in a way that is relatable and genuine which makes it a must watch for anyone who appreciates nuanced coming of age movies.
