It’s the habit of almost every Marian girl, she sits on her phone while 13 assignments pile up on her to do list. Procrastination is taking over, when did it start, when will it stop, how do girls get their homework done on time?

Junior Amira Thomas is known for her procrastination. She is eager to admit that she does not tend to do her homework until the morning it is due. Since she often does this, Thomas has received a few iblocks, a thirty minute period after school where students are sent if their homework was not completed on time, but does usually manage to get it all done before this happens.

Thomas participates in many activities, with cheer before school, games after school, and dance after school as well. Having many activities can make procrastinating homework and other tasks happen more often.

Stress can cause students to get homework done. Thomas said, “The reason I procrastinate is from lack of stress, when I get close to when the assignment is due, the stress kicks in and I get it done really fast.” Some stress can be good to help get homework done.

Junior Audrey Morey, on a regular night, starts her homework at 9 p.m. This late start of homework is not all her fault, Morey, like Thomas, leads a busy life with after school activities.

Morey does not get stressed while procrastinating, until she realizes how much homework she has. She knows she could prevent this stress by starting homework earlier.

There seems to be a reason behind some procrastination, “I procrastinate and go on my phone when I get home from school and practice because I am so tired from the day, it is hard to just start my homework,” Morey said. There seems to be a common theme of Morey and Thomas procrastinating after a tiring day.

People continue their procrastination from high school onto their everyday jobs. It affects people’s work ethic their entire lives. Maybe it is time to put an end to procrastinating.

Procrastination can be a huge weight on your shoulders, but it can also motivate. Everyone knows that feeling when you have an assignment due in the morning and you haven’t started it yet, but you are able to finish it pretty quick the night before. This is how the stress from procrastination can motivate.
