Marian educates very well-rounded young women. One of them being junior Kamryn Wray, who checks all the boxes. Wray is involved in many activities in and out of Marian all while being committed to play Division I soccer at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Wray puts her time and effort into soccer, Campus Ministry, Ambassador core team, Big Sisters, traveling around the country for club soccer, saving lives at Champions Run as a certified lifeguard in the summer and volunteering when she has spare time.
Wray is taking many honors classes even during such a challenging time like junior year. Between Honors AP English Literature, Honors Physics and Honors Algebra, and her electives she enjoys, like broadcasting and dual sports, she has quite the full schedule. Do not let her long summer break fool you—Wray keeps busy. Lifeguarding is her trade and she loves to soak up the sun while also having fun at the pool protecting families and children.
Clearly, this future college athlete has a lot on her plate, “I try to balance my extracurricular/social life with academics as best I can by planning out my time with each of them at the beginning of the week. Although it is very important to have good grades and focus on academics, I think having time outside of school to socialize and get active is just as important,” Wray said. Wray loves to spend time with her friends on the field and off of it.
“Since I was little, I always thought I wanted to play, but when high school came around it became more serious, and I realized that playing in college and continuing my soccer career is for me.” Since her freshman year at Marian, she has been on the varsity soccer team, showing up for her teammates and coaches every single day. This 2025 soccer season, she is the varisty team captain. Wray puts time and effort into what she loves to do. Since she was 5, Wray always had a love for soccer and was a motivated player. Wray always looked up to Alex Morgan and the Creighton Women’s soccer team, “I have always admired the women’s world cup and I also really looked up to the upperclassmen when I was a freshman and sophomore like Anna Bragg ‘24 and Mallory Connealy ‘23,” Wray said.
Wray is surrounded by love and support within her school, team, friends, and family, “Both of my parents have really pushed me to be involved and work insanely hard at all I do. My mom has pushed me to continue to stay involved and have fun while doing it all. My dad has pushed me to put my all into everything I do and inspire those who are watching,” Wray said. Wray’s parents are her biggest cheerleaders and she contributes her success to her parents’ constant support and motivation. Wray plans to continue to strive for her goals while soaking up her last year at Marian. Wray is extremely excited for what is to come.
Even though she has a busy schedule, this multi-talented young woman finds time to do things that make her happy with the people she loves. “Sundays are the days where I lock-in and spend hours doing my homework so I can put my focus towards soccer after school,” Wray said. Wray wants to make an impact after she graduates from Marian and she is well on her way to do so.
