In the modern age, online shopping can prove to be time-efficient and convenient. Being able to order nearly anything you can imagine at the click of a button is indeed wonderful — but what about the experience that comes with good old-fashioned shopping in person?

Going shopping in person is an adventure that goes beyond just throwing items in your cart and spending money. It offers an opportunity to see and be seen, and get out into the world instead of just sitting at home.

When buying online, it’s difficult to tell how an item will actually look in real life. When it comes to clothes, it is impossible to know how a garment will fit and look on you if you’re only seeing it on a screen.

Another risk that accompanies online shopping is being straight up scammed. False advertisements are abound on the internet, and if you don’t pay close attention to the source you’re buying from, you could get sent something totally different from what you ordered — or nothing at all. Not to mention sketchy websites potentially stealing credit card information or other personal details.

Nothing compares to the experience of IRL shopping.

It can be an exciting quest to check if the specific item you’ve been wanting, whether it be a new makeup product or a trendy pair of shoes, is in stock at your nearest shop. And if you’re impatient like me, you can get what you want immediately without the tedious wait for shipping.

Going out to buy things can also serve as an opportunity for socializing. When out and about, you could make a new friend at the mall, or strike up a conversation with a friendly cashier.

Busting out your cash isn’t even necessary — window shopping and simple browsing are great ways to get a bit of exercise and entertainment or maybe show off your cute outfit.

Plus, physically visiting stores contributes to the local economy and keeps them open. We’ve lost one store too many, especially in shopping malls, due to the advent of online shopping.

Don’t get me wrong — online shopping is a highly useful option that allows for the purchase of items you just can’t find in the flesh. But shopping in person will always have my heart.
