Review By J1 Reporter Macy Preheim
“Thirty, flirty, and thriving” — the words that turned a teenager’s wish into a whirlwind ride through adulthood. 13 Going on 30, a nostalgic rom-com that combines fantasy with heartfelt comedy.
Directed by Gary Winick and written by Josh Goldsmith, this movie remains a classic decades later.

Do you ever wish you could skip the awkward years and wake up to your dream life? That is exactly what happened to Jenna Rink, the main character in 13 Going on 30.
On her 13th birthday she makes a wish to become a 30-year-old woman with the perfect life, just like the women in the magazines.
Her wish magically comes true and she wakes up in the body of a 30-year-old living in New York. She thinks she is living a seemingly perfect adult life—but quickly learns that growing up fast has its consequences.
Jennifer Garner brings infectious joy and vulnerability to her role, making the audience believe in Jenna’s wide-eyed wonder. The film is very nostalgic but also includes emotional stakes.
While the plot follows the familiar rom-com formula, the film’s heart and humor make it stand out. It is not just about finding true love, it is learning who you want to be instead of what you want to have.
13 Going on 30 sends a message of staying true to yourself that can be relevant to anyone. You can now find this movie on Netflix and YouTube TV with a valid subscription. If you are looking for a feel-good film that you know will put you in a good mood, this one’s a must.
