A complicated love triangle between a girl and two brothers. A summer full of endless possibilities. This is the setting for the controversial final season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” by Jenny Han. After two seasons, fans are dying to see what Belly will ultimately do.

With brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher being the two love interests, fans have picked their brother of choice and have tuned in weekly since July 16 to watch the dynamics with each change.

Though Jeremiah’s popularity seems to be somewhat decreasing as more episodes are released, his fans remain loyal to his side, believing that he is the right choice for Belly.

“Jeremiah is emotionally available throughout the entire show,” senior Avery Peklo, a member of Team Jeremiah, admits. “He openly shows affection for Belly and is consistently more communicative about how he feels. Jeremiah also brings a sense of fun to the show. He’s got an upbeat and sociable vibe, and he genuinely enjoys life,” Peklo said.

Team Conrad fans beg to differ. “I am Team Conrad because he is much more mature than Jeremiah and he has always cared for Belly so deeply. I think Jeremiah and Belly are better off as friends and don’t have as deep of a connection as Conrad and Belly,” junior Cambree Reichmuth said.

This season, 20-year-old Belly Conklin struggles with many decisions including her relationship with Jeremiah, her unresolved feelings for Conrad, her study abroad in Paris, and other family matters.

Although there was a shaky situation between Jeremiah and Belly in the beginning of the season, they reconnect and out of nowhere, emotionally-charged Jeremiah pops the question and asks Belly to marry him.

So the summer begins. Conrad and Belly are both staying at the Cousins beach house while Jeremiah is back home, leading to a further relationship development.

During summer and wedding prep, Conrad sees Belly stressed over budgeting and errand-running for her wedding. So he helps her and together they go to the florist, the bakery, Michael’s, a peach farm, and back to the house for dinner.

The hardest part for Conrad is that he’s torn between watching the love of his life get married to his brother, but, nevertheless, he tries his best to support the two. As the season progresses, we witness Belly’s internal conflict with both brothers. She loves Jeremiah, but she feels that a part of her will always love Conrad.

Through all this confusion, Belly has her best friend, Taylor Jewel, by her side. Taylor supports Belly and her decisions 100 percent. She provides a safe space and comforting love that only a friend can give.

Conrad and Jeremiah both have their rights and wrongs; which one will be Belly’s “endgame” has been a hot topic for three years since the show’s initial airing.

“I think if we are going to compare Conrad and Jeremiah, and you’d want a reliable and emotionally stable relationship, a partner who lifts you up, not constantly bringing you down, less drama and more joy, Jeremiah wins,” Peklo said.

In contrast, sophomore Kylie Schonhoff said, “I think Belly should end up with Conrad because she is truly in love with him and Jeremiah cheated on her.”

Despite this, the choice is and always has been up to Belly, not us as viewers.

But if Principal Dr. Susie Sullivan had her way, Belly would choose neither and just be independent.
