Roblox. A staple of Gen Z’s childhood has endangered young people all across the world. This threat has now affected the Marian community, resulting in the banning of the app on Marian issued iPads.

Roblox is a gaming platform that allows young people to play a variety of games, created by Roblox users. Well-known games include Bloxburg, a roleplay game, Grow-A-Garden, a gardening simulator, and obstacle course games.

Currently, there are many lawsuits from parents all across the United States concerning Roblox. According to NBC in 2025, the main reason parents are suing Roblox is the many dangerous predators on the app.

Roblox refutes these allegations by pointing to the many benefits of the app. According to their Safety and Civility Statement, they say they support education by educating children on how to recognize bad behavior. They work closely with the government to report any child predators, and they “aim to protect [their] community against emergent discriminatory or harmful content.”

Despite Roblox’s claims, Marian officials took steps to limit students’ access to the app.

Director of Technology, Mr. Bruce Moore, helped execute this new ban on the app. “We were notified about the dangers within the community, especially for minors,” he said. “My first response is to protect.”

Moore warns students,  “if an app has a chat component … be aware of who [you’re] talking to.”

He further explained, “Avoid people who start to get personal right away. Predators can take on any personality online.”

For the future, if students want to request new personal apps, the criteria, according to Moore, is “as long as it doesn’t charge too much and is safe.” Some popular apps that have been requested by students are Good Pizza, Great Pizza and Hay Day.

Moore wants students to get the most out of their technology. “If it is too good to be true, it probably is.”
