Father of the Bride Movie Review – 4/5 Stars
Review by J1 Reporter Brooklyn Frankenfield
“The Father of the Bride” 1991, directed by Charles Shyer, was an entertaining, heartfelt and humorous movie. Even though it is an older movie, it was still relatable which made me like it even more.
It is about a dad whose daughter comes home from being away in Rome and has met the love of her life and decides to get married to him. The dad gets protective because he is worried about losing his daughter who he still sees as the same little girl she once was. As the movie progresses, it shows the craziness of the wedding and all the stress and planning involved which causes a rollercoaster of emotions.

Steve Martin, who plays the dad, did a good job of portraying humor and emotion to make it more lighthearted than sentimental. I really enjoyed the supermarket scene with the hotdogs, and the scene of snooping around the father-in-law’s house and falling into the pool. There were parts that made me laugh out loud.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley, who plays the daughter, was good at showing her emotions and excitement for the future while still showing love for her family. The casting in this movie was really good, and I felt like every actor was perfect for their role.
I liked how this movie showed a major life event and how it impacted not just the person it was occurring to but also the people close to her. I found it relatable to both the daughter and her desire for independence and new steps in her future, and the dad’s struggle to accept it.
You can find this move on Disney+, Hulu, Sling, YouTube TV, Google Play, Fandango, AppleTV, and Amazon Prime. It is rated 6.6/10 on IMDb, and 70% on Rotten Tomatoes.
This movie impacted me because it made me think about how fast life moves, and it encouraged me to spend time with my family while I can before I go off to college. Even with it being older, this movie feels timeless because everyone gets older and growing up does not just happen to kids, but to parents, too. Overall “Father of the Bride” is an entertaining, feel-good movie that I would recommend and watch again.
