If you need a reminder of the reason for the season, look no further than the newly released movie “All is Merry and Bright.” Set in Omaha, the movie follows a family and their journey to find the true meaning of Christmas during the holiday season.
For most moviegoers, it is unusual to see a film set in the city of Omaha. But this movie was destined to feature Omaha from the start. “The screenwriter, Darbi Scaglione, is from Omaha…so that was kind of how it got started,” said producer Shun Lee Fong. Fong worked in coalition with producer Caren Kelly and director Cory Edwards to make Scaglione’s writing come to life.

Wintry scenes in the Omaha Metro are found throughout the film. “We shot in the Old Market, Midtown Crossing…[and] we went into a lot of the neighborhoods just around town to find some of the lighting displays,” Fong said. Locations like the Rose Theater, the Orpheum and the Gene Leahy Mall got special features in a creative, wintry montage.
Capturing all of Omaha’s Christmas beauty was made simple thanks to a few film techniques. “When you have a smaller crew and you’re just doing…exterior shots it makes it a whole lot easier,” Fong said.
Forgoing the trailers, actors and extensive film equipment, the movie’s small film crew was able to drive around the city and shoot everything they needed in five days back in December 2024.
All interior shots with the actors were shot on a film set in Atlanta, Georgia.
As viewers follow one Omaha family’s Christmas season, they are exposed to the struggles that come with trying to maintain a perfect Christmas. Fong hopes that viewers learn that a perfect Christmas may simply mean “loving God and loving people.”

The movie debuted in theaters across the nation on Nov. 7, bringing an Omaha Christmas to states like Arizona, Florida and New York.
