As students begin thinking about registering for classes next year,  it is good to know all of the options and opportunities. Starting in the 2026-27 school year, Marian will be offering two new classes: Introduction to Robotics and Honors Algebra.

Intro to Robotics will be a one semester class taught by Dr. Sharon Genoways. The class is separate from the Robotics Club, which meets after school and competes in robotics competitions. The class requires no prior knowledge of robotics and no outside competitions.

“This class will combine coding, engineering, problem-solving and teamwork while learning how to collaborate, communicate ideas and lead projects,” Genoways said.

Girls are encouraged by Genoways to register for this course if they have any interest in engineering or robotics.

“This course will stand out on college applications and resumes, and many scholarships and STEM programs actively encourage female applicants with hands-on technical backgrounds,” Genoways said.

Honors Algebra is a new year-long course that will be offered to incoming freshmen. It is for students who still need to take Algebra, but want to take a more challenging course and boost their GPA.

Before, the only options for freshmen to take an honors math class were to take Honors Geometry or Honors Advanced Algebra, both of which require a student to have already taken Algebra in middle school or test out of Algebra I.

Students can sign up for these classes on their registration day, which will be at the end of January for current students and on February 23 for incoming freshmen.
