With the school year coming to an end, the summer before senior year is a common time for the rising seniors to take their senior photos. This time is fast approaching for the Class of 2027 and has already passed for the Class of 2026. The Class of 2026 and 2027 both have students who have worked with photographers or even started their own businesses to have good photos and provide photos for their peers.

Senior Reese Eggers has always had a passion for photography. She found it when her parents bought her a small digital camera in elementary school.

The summer before her senior year was when she started her business. She had always loved photography and wanted to “try to see if [she] could make some money from that passion.” She gained confidence from other photographers and decided to start her business. Her account can be found and messaged on Instagram @reesekatherine_digitals.

With personal experience, Eggers would recommend “picking outfits that are timeless and that you feel beautiful in.” This is important to remember because senior pictures will be around for a long time and it is important to enjoy them. She also recommends that “studio shoots are a must alongside outdoor photos.” Senior photos mark an important time in life coming to an end. Photos you enjoy are important to mark the end of high school.

Junior Maddie Danahay has joined the representative group for Ethan Streeter Photography. As a representative, she is a part of various photoshops to advertise the business. She also promotes it in her life and through social media. With this, she has gained experience before her senior year that can help those with upcoming senior pictures. Senior photos are very important and they only happen once. Danahay “would tell girls who are getting senior photos taken to relax, have fun and wear outfits that you feel confident in.” Make the most of the experience so you love your photos.

With senior pictures it can be nerve-wracking so Danahay suggests going in with an open mind. The photographer is a professional and will be “experimenting with different techniques and poses.” It is important to “go with the flow” and have trust in the photographer.

As the school year concludes, it is important for the rising senior to book their senior photographs. When taking photos, do not forget to wear outfits you feel comfortable in, go with the flow of the photographer and trust you will end up with photos you love. Something to note is that Yearbook needs a vertical head and shoulder shot before Dec. 1. Make sure to get this during your senior photoshoot so you can take care of that senior task, too.

As the school year comes to an end and Marian girls are preparing for summer, knowing what is approaching in August can always help students feel at ease.

As 8th graders become freshmen, freshmen become sophomores, sophomores become juniors and juniors finally become seniors, reflecting on what you’ve learned is important; but don’t you wish you had some advice that you could take with you into the next school year?

2027, are you ready? As junior year ends and senior year finally approaches, here’s some helpful advice on how you can make senior year the best one yet.

Insightful senior. Clare Engel poses outside of Marian for her last first day on Aug. 15, 2025. With a smile on her face, Engel took on her senior year as prepared as ever. Photo by Aubrey Mattox.

Senior Clare Engel reflects on all she learned from senior year                       and notes that the easiest part was being so familiar with the environment. “You know the ropes and have a community to support you,” Engel said.

However, she believes the hardest part is the college application and decision process. She also says how hard it is knowing you are leaving at the end of the year.

Senior year course load is still pretty difficult, especially with AP classes, but definitely still manageable. She believes that your senior year schedule is ultimately what you make of it.

If you’re struggling on what classes to take, Engel recommends her Honors World Literature class because the homework is pretty much reading and the class discussions are engaging and interesting.

She also would recommend AP Statistics to any person who might not love or be interested in math, but still wants a credit to transfer.

Being a senior looks like balancing academics, social life and responsibilities. During senior year most girls are pretty busy with involvements, but it’s important to get good sleep, take lots of photos and try your best to make a positive impact on others.
