As the 2015-2016 school year rolled around, parking at Marian evolved into a race to see who could wake up the earliest. After hearing dispute throughout the hallways, girls began to investigate the issue. Why is upper lot full at 7:06 a.m.? Is it because there are more drivers this year than last, or the spots blocked off in carpool lot?
Senior Julia Nulty claims she was able to arrive at Marian around 7:20 a.m. last year, and still easily get a spot in upper lot. However, this year she shoots to arrive close to 7, in fear of enduring the dreaded walk up from sophomore lot.
According to Mrs. Shari Reynolds in the business office, there were 330 parking permits sold this year, compared to 280 last year. Could these 50 cars be the cause? Some students believe this could be the culprit along with half the carpool lot- lot located on the north side of the school near the Performing Arts Center- being closed off due to construction.
After looking into this theory, Assistant-principal Ms. Rochelle Rohlfs said, ” The problems behind the carpool lot are not up for discussion due to a legal dispute, but we do know that it will be fixed soon.” The sight of dirt near the area and a construction worker here and there shows just a glimpse of progress in regards to this issue.
It is safe to say Marian parking can be quite a touchy subject, especially if the day an upperclasswomen is forced to park in sophomore lot just happens to be the same day there is a torrential downpour, blizzard, or negative wind chills.
