Claire’s Chatter

I cannot stand how much negativity there is at Nebraska football games.

I have noticed that most football fans think they know every single thing there is to know about football. But, I can tell you from many years of watching football and the extensive football unit in gym class, they definitely do not.

Everyone seems to think that the players on the field can hear the advice that they are giving.  When the offense threw a bad pass, I would hear angry fans yell things like, “Run the ball!” or “Butter fingers!”  I’m almost 100 percent sure that the players didn’t mean to mess up, so why do people get so angry!?

When the referees call a penalty against Nebraska, all of the fans get so angry even though it was the right call.  People like to make excuses like “Oh, these refs are from the Big 12, they hate Nebraska” or “These are the dumbest refs I’ve ever seen.”

I, on the other hand, just stand there and think to myself about how the referees on the field can see the play better than you and know what they are doing.  They have to make the same calls they make against the opposing team, yeah the ones you cheered for earlier, to Nebraska in order to keep it fair.

The sport of football does include penalties that go against both teams.  You just have to deal with it.  Players make mistakes, but they also make really good plays.  Everyone should just worry about the good things the team members do and try to encourage them when they don’t do very well instead of complaining every time something bad happens.
