When we were in grade to their was one lesson that we all needed two master: the use of homophones. You’re English teachers drilled it into you’re brain in order for you too pass there class, but for those of you who don’t remember, a homophone is a word that sounds the same as another word, yet their spelled completely differently and have a different meaning. The most commonly used are there/ their/ they’re, two/ too/ to, and your/ you’re. Grade to happened nine years ago. So how is it that their are still people out they’re who are getting it wrong?
How many research papers have you had two write since grade too? How many weekly writings and formal essays? Tens? Hundreds? I’m sure you didn’t fail every single one of those (or at least I sure hope you didn’t), so you must know when too use which version of there, to, and your. So why is it then that when you turn on you’re phones you turn off you’re brains?
The to places that homophones are most commonly misused are over text message and on Twitter. Yes, these are too places where people abbreviate there messages, but that is no excuse.
If your standing in line at the grocery story and you send you’re mom a text saying, “they’re too cute boys and there hair is to gorgeous two be forced too be living on they’re heads!” I can guarantee that you’re mother will have no clue what your saying and will continue two nag you and repeatedly ask you too retype you’re message until she understands that your just trying two express the level of beautiful-ness of this cashier’s hair.
Like you, I don’t always enjoy listening too my parents, so let’s just listen two John Mayer instead. You can’t deny that he is way better looking than you’re ‘rents (I mean let’s be real here, he is gor-geous), and don’t even get me started on that angelic voice of his. He once said in an interview, “Ladies, if you want to know the way to my heart… good spelling and good grammar, good punctuation, capitalize only where you are supposed to capitalize, it’s done.”
I’m just as lazy as the to girls next two me, but come on, people! Do we really have such little time that their is no possible way too spend an extra .02 seconds typing an “ier” instead of an “ere”? You’re thumbs may begin two cramp, but I can guarantee that people will appreciate the fact that they can now understand you’re message.
It’s time two whip out you’re super cute 80’s workout gear because this is one thumb workout that is two valuable too pass up on. When you feel like you’re to tired two continue you’re thumb curls, just remember that John Mayer is waiting for you on the other side of you’re tiny, thumb-sized dumbbells.
Do it for John, ladies. Just do it for John.
They’re 56 homophone errors in this piece. Can you find them all?
