Sierra DeMulder was hosted by the Slam Poetry Club and shared her poetry with Marian on Friday, Jan. 14 during both lunches.

DeMulder delivered five of her poems and answered questions from students. Her poems featured themes that resonated with and inspired students. “It kept me intrigued, because the poems she said were things high schoolers could relate to, like family and friends. It gave me a new perspective on a lot of things in my life,” junior Caitlin Wessling said.

DeMulder is a two-time National Poetry Slam champion, and a four-time published author. Her advice to aspiring poets and artists is to “consume your craft.” Whether this is done by reading, watching videos on Youtube, or attending open mic events, DeMulder encourages students to get involved with what they’re interested in.

DeMulder will be performing her poetry on Saturday, January 14 at the Community Engagement Building at UNO from 7-9:30 p.m. This event is open to high-schoolers for an admission price of $3 and parking will be free.
