After graduating from Marian, one may wonder how to stay connected with Marian and the classmates who helped create lasting memories.
Nancy Casey ‘82 is the Alumnae Director at Marian. She is in charge of reaching out to Marian’s alumnae and hosting numerous alumnae events. With more than 15 events to plan and execute each year, from the Esprit de Corps Banquet to the Young Alum Open House, Casey creates opportunities for the alumnae to network with the girls currently attending Marian and offers a forum for them to share their memorable Marian moments.
On Oct. 13, Marian alumnae from the graduating classes of 1959 to 1967 were honored at the Golden Grads luncheon. The lunch took place at Anthony’s Steakhouse to recognize those alumni with 50 plus years since their graduation.
The grads were met with door prizes, including many items from the Bluetique. They sat at tables with their old classmates, having one to three tables for each class. The alumnae played Marian trivia to test their knowledge and memories of their former school. The winners received prizes, which created a very competitive atmosphere at this year’s lunch.
President Ms. Mary Higgins gave an update of the happenings around Marian which always proves fascinating to those who have been away from Marian for 50 years and counting since their graduation. She said, “Much at Marian is exactly the same as it was when you were in the hallways and at the same time, much has changed. What remains is the power of all-girls, the academic excellence, the tradition of the Servants of Mary, and the fundamental spirit!”
The alums enjoy hearing about the current Marian girls excelling at the school they were lucky to attend. “They love it,” Casey said, “once they hit their fiftieth reunion, they just want someone to have a party for them.”
These Golden Grads look forward to the future parties to come. Next year, the Class of 1968 will have the chance to walk across the stage at graduation, and then they will be invited to the luncheon to join the women who graduated before them. President Higgins said, “It is such a treat to gather with these wonderful women who remain so enthusiastic about Marian.”
