Eric Phipps: A Day in the Life

By J1 Reporter Maria Piperis

You know him, you love him. The man, the myth, the legend, and the maintenance guy, Eric Phipps. Every Marian girl that has seen him in action has wondered at least once: what does a regular day in his life look like? What music does he listen to? How does he take his coffee? Keep reading to find out the answers to all of your commonly asked questions.

IMG_0897Get up, go to work, come home, go to sleep, and do it all over again the next day. He may have a typical routine, but Phipps’ everyday life is far from boring. Each
morning, he hops into his black Honda Elantra and blares some heavy metal

(and no, it is never too early for Iron
Maiden). The twenty-minute ride to
Marian is his favorite part of the day.
Phipps narrowed down some of his favorite bands in the genre he refers to as “dad metal.”

Aside from Iron Maiden, his all-time favorite band, Phipps likes Metallica, AC/DC, and Megadeth. Another interesting fact is, although you may peg him as a black coffee kind of guy, Phipps takes his coffee “like a teenage girl”, with sugar, heavy cream, and hazelnut syrup!

When asked about his biggest pet peeve about Marian girls, he went quiet for a minute. “I’m not pausing because I have a lot of them. I’m pausing because I’m trying to find one!” After the short silence, Phipps decided that his biggest pet peeve was students leaving their lunch tables messy, since he is the one that has to clean them up. Aside from that, Phipps may be the biggest fan of Marian girls. When asked about his favorite thing about students, Phipps responded, “Everything else. You guys are always willing to jump in and help out. That’s really cool.”

After work, Phipps comes home to a happy family, two dogs, and two cats. He’s a simple, hard-working, heavy metal-loving guy that loves his job. So the next time you’re tempted to leave your half-eaten cookie sundae or spilled drink on the lunch tables, take a minute out of your day to pick up after yourself, and even say thank you to Phipps if you catch him in the halls!
