Harmonies resonated around the East Gym as a group of Creighton Prep choir students joined Marian’s Worship Choir to guide the school in a celebration of Easter. Two days of rehearsal, led by choir directors Mr. Robert Chesire of Creighton Prep and Mrs. Anna Kolterman ‘94, produced a joyful choir to lead Mass on April 6, celebrated by Fr. Kevin Schneider, S.J.

“As an all-girls choir, we sound amazing on our own, but we always love adding the boys to produce a new and inventive sound,” freshman Elaina Carleton said.

The choir led the Mass congregation in renditions of “Oh, Happy Day,” “You Raise Me Up,” and “Awesome God” among other songs. The community was even treated to a new version of “Start a Fire” performed with members of Marian’s band directed by Mr. Paul Niedbalski.

“‘Oh, Happy Day’ [was my favorite song to perform] because it’s probably one of the loudest things and it’s really fun to see everyone get into the music even though it’s ‘Mass music.’ Everyone still gets into it, and it’s really nice and encouraging,” junior P.J. Mooney said.

Seniors Caleb Myers and Anna Swoboda were featured in solo performances during “Oh Happy Day,” a song that has always provoked a positive response from the Marian faith community.

“Singing at Prep is our usual setting, so when you come to Marian and sing with all the girls, a different sound is produced, and it’s a different uplifting experience,” Mooney said in agreement with Carleton.
