Ever since I was a little girl I have had a questionable obsession with animals, cats in particular. Whether I was reading, hanging out with my friends, even brushing my teeth, I’d always have my cat in hand. Borderline obsessed? Just a little. I’ve had cats surround my life since I was 7 years old.
I guess you could say Oct. 4 was one of the greatest days of my life. I discovered a coffee shop that sells the purrfect cup of coffee and adoptable cats. What could be better? Felius Cat Cafe is a non-profit coffee shop located in Omaha on 522½ S. 24th Street. It’s Omaha’s first, and only, non-profit cat cafe. Their mission is to revolutionize Omaha’s cat adoption experience and reduce feline euthanasia rates.
Felius Cat Cafe has many cat options as they do coffee. When you go there, you have three options: order killer coffee, be swarmed with kittens in the play pen or both. I would suggest option three. If you decide to play with kittens, you have two time options. It costs $7.50 for a half an hour express cuddle session or $14 for an hour cuddle session. Each additional hour is $10 on top of the $7.50 or $14. The entry fee goes towards the cats’ care to make sure they have the best experience possible.
Felius Cat Cafe is closed on Mondays but is open Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you decide to get up close and personal with Felius’ furry friends, make sure you book an appointment to ensure your spot ahead of time. Felius Cat Cafe only allows 10 people at a time in the cat cuddle room. Felius Cat Cafe recommends that all appointments are to be booked 12 hours in advance online. Otherwise, you can walk in the day-of and see if any spots are available. Also note that the entrance to the cat cuddle room is restricted to ages 6+ and visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. You can book cuddle time either online at felius.org or contact them at (402) 502-7650.
The cats are not the only fantastic thing about Felius Cat Cafe; the coffee is exceptional! When it comes to coffee, your options seem limitless. Their drink menu is divided into four parts: coffee, not coffee, seasonal and cat entry. The not coffee portion offers different kinds of tea for all the non-coffee lovers who still love cats. I decided to get something of the seasonal part of the menu; it was a 12 oz. blended coffee called “The Tiger Shake” for only $5. You can order it with caramel or vanilla. Caramel is usually my safe zone, so I decided to try it with vanilla. That was the second best decision of the night.
I also decided to check out the cat entry part of the menu and happily spent $14 for an hour in the cat play pen, also known as the best decision of the night. This was the peak of my happiness. Who would have thought I would be spending my time at a cat cafe on a Sunday night and absolutely love it.
All you cat lovers out there, please take time out of your day to come see this beautiful cafe with cuddly cats to end your day right. I promise you will not be disappointed.
