High school… you will be missed

Opinion Column By J1 Reporter Rilee Silvain

Within a blink of an eye, it’s graduation day.

You say thank you to all your teachers who have helped you become the person you are today. You look at the student body and towards the freshmen in which you wish to be in their place right now. You walk out the doors and stare at the beautiful sign that reads “Marian High School” one last time as a flood of tears pour down your face. Lastly, you hug your friends, thinking about all the memories that you have made together and you realize that they are the best people you have ever met and no one will replace them.

The worst part of this all is that all you want is to go back. All you want is to go back and live through high school one last time.

High school is an emotional roller coaster. Students spend an average 180 days at school per year. That’s approximately 720 days spent in high school. It may seem like a lot, but before you notice, it is all gone.

Adults often say high school was the best four years of their lives. However, it may not be the best four years for everyone. High school is what you make out of it. If you want to have an amazing high school experience then you need to go into it with an open mind and open attitude.

Do what you enjoy. Experience and learn new things. Surround yourself with positive people. Take risks. Enjoy your teachers. Don’t stress so much. Become your best self. And most importantly… live in the moment. Don’t wish for it all to be over, because one day it will.

I was told by my mom that high school is where you find your future bridesmaids. In her wedding, three of her bridesmaids were her best friends from high school. So go ahead girls, find your future bridesmaids and if you find your future husband as well, then you’re a lucky one!

Freshmen year,  explore new things and meet new people.

Sophomore year, find what you love and have fun.

Junior year, take risks and find yourself.

Because next thing you know, you will be at your last high school dance, you will be learning your last lesson in math, you’ll be having your last all girls night out, and you will be spending every day wishing for just another year in high school.

Four years in high school isn’t enough at all.  But if you live it in the best possible way that you can, then one day hopefully you will be able to say “high school was some of the best years of my life,” because that is what it should be.

You are now visiting all kinds of colleges and sending in your applications to all the colleges you dream about attending.  You’re making a Pinterest board about what your dorm room is going to look like. And most importantly you are questioning what you want to do for the rest of your life.

It’s a scary question, “What do you want to do with the rest of your life?” If you’re like me, this question is impossible to think about. So don’t think about it, live for today and live it in the best way.
