Summer of 2k19

By Anna Feldman

Summer is the time of year all teenagers love for one reason: no school. Teenagers are free from the stresses of the high school hallways, and have the freedom to do as they please.  It is the time of year where it is acceptable for your dad to send you flying off a tube. Most importantly, it is the time of year where teenagers have the most memorable experiences with their friends.

Girls at Marian spent their summer traveling, chilling with friends, working, and making memories. Junior Kyra Knudsen said, “I spent my summer working at Charleston’s and Brookhill pool. The pool is my second home where all my friends work and go.”

She spent her free time hanging with friends and traveling to Okoboji with her family.

Senior Emma McClellan flew across the Atlantic Ocean to Spain where she spent 15 days studying the Spanish language and culture. “My favorite thing to do was take a picnic to the beach and read my Spanish book,” McClellan said. She explained how the beaches were a great place to hang out with her friends.

While she was there, she submerged herself in the culture. “I experienced the culture through my home stay, my Spanish teachers, and the different festivals I went to.  We also traveled to nearby towns and got to try so many delicious foods,” McClellan said.

Her favorite food she tried was pintxo, which is a goat cheese that differed in taste from each restaurant.

Whether you spent your summer traveling the world, working one, two, or even three summer jobs, or attending tournaments for athletics, summer is a unique time to experience life with your closest friends.
