Prom is a night that almost everyone dreams about…getting all glammed up with friends, stressing about corsages or boutonnieres, having a sweet piece of arm candy by your side and finally hitting the dance floor. However, Marian isn’t really like High School Musical, and prom may not be what you expect.
The committee is divided into groups including decorations, theme and announcement, but they all work together to make final decisions. “This committee is really a team that helps and guides each other in all the decision making processes,” committee member, junior Annie Masek said.
To kick off prom season, juniors Audrey Van Dyke, Kate Timmerman, Annie Masek and Katie Sulentic created a prom announcement video discussing the theme of prom, basic dress code rules, and this year’s prom princesses. The senior prom princesses for 2021 are Aby Acevedo, Sydnee Baysa, Callie Cavanaugh, Maddie Clark, Katie Corpuz and Margaret Kelly. Masks are required to keep everyone safe and healthy, and social distancing is highly advised throughout the night. The committee is divided into groups including decorations, theme and announcement, but they all work together to make final decisions. “This committee is really a team that helps and guides each other in all the decision making processes,” committee member, junior Annie Masek said. Mark your calendars for April 17. This year’s prom theme is “mask-arade,” playing on the idea of a masquerade ball and the current pandemic, with the color theme of gold, black and red. Prom will be held at the Durham Museum.
The committee members think of ideas and try to plan accordingly, while Mr. Craig Panning, the committee’s moderator, signs off on the ideas. Panning said, “On my end, I’m part of booking the venue and ordering anything like tiaras, decorations, DJ, etc.” The meetings started at the beginning of the year and continue to occur while the committee plans prom. Finally, Principal Susie Sullivan signs the contract and has final approval.
This year’s prom planning committee members are always hard at work to ensure a safe and enjoyable prom night.
