Spring Senior Tributes – Soccer, Tennis & Track Athletes Show Commitment

The five seniors on the soccer team were celebrated April 13 at SENIOR NIGHT before the game against Omaha Benson on the Marian turf.

Natalie Bullock

Natalie Bullock has played soccer at Marian for four years.  She has been active at Marian on the Yearbook staff and as a page editor for Burn Magazine.  She has been honored with membership in National Honor Society, National Spanish Honors Society and the National Science Honors Society.  Natalie has plans to study Civil Engineering at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Her parents are Steve and Drlynn Bullock.

Mallory Jo Connealy

Mallory Jo Connealy has played soccer at Marian for four years. She and her teammates are two-time district champions and the NSAA State soccer semi-finalist.  Mallory is active in journalism and is the Sports Page Editor of the award-winning Network newspaper.  Next year, Mallory plans on continuing to play soccer at Xavier University. She will major in business. Her parents are Tovah Connealy and Brendan Connealy

Isabella Marie DeGeorge

Isabella Marie DeGeorge has played soccer at Marian for four years.  She is also a member of National Honor Society and a prayer leader for Campus Ministry. Her plan for next year is to attend the University of Kansas, and study Interior Design. Her parents are Teresa and Nicholas DeGeorge.

Elissa L. Eisele

Elissa L. Eisele has played soccer at Marian for four years. She is involved in Journalism as an award-winning Network Opinion page editor. She is a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and the National Science Honor Society. She intends to attend the University of Colorado Boulder, major in Psychology and minor in Spanish.  Her parents are Cheryl and Marc Eisele.

Maria McLeay

Maria McLeay has played soccer at Marian for four years.  She has been involved in Campus Ministry (as a retreat leader and altar server), Burn magazine staff as a page editor, soccer camp coach, French Club, Class Officer, yearbook activities section editor and award-winning photographer, soccer coach for Football for the World and vice president of the Kicks for Cure Junior Board.  She plans to attend Regis University in the fall. Maria’s parents are Colleen and Tom McLeay.


Tennis Seniors

Ellen Crotzer

Ellen Crotzer has been on the Marian tennis team all four years. Outside of tennis, Ellen is the president of National Honors Society, an active member of the Young Medicine Club, and is National Merit Commended. Ellen intends to attend Notre Dame and major in biochemistry on the pre-med track. Her parents are Becky McCrery and David Crotzer.  

Elsa Jurrens

Elsa Jurrens has competed on the Marian tennis team all four years. During this time she has won Metro at one singles and is a state finalist. She is a journalist for the Marian network, active in national honors society, and is the president of Young Medicine Club. Elsa plans to continue to play tennis at Creighton University. Her parents are Traci and Tom Jurrens.  

Lauren Mendlick

Lauren Mendlick has been on the Marian tennis team all four years. Lauren has also competed for the Marian swimming team these past four years. She has earned all academic all state swimming, all academic all metro conference s winning, and all academic all metro conference tennis. Outside of sports, Lauren is involved in the Young Medicine Club, crusaders elevating others leadership group, Marian recruitment team. Lauren plans to attend and swim at Saint Louis University and is undecided on her major. Her parents are Katie and Matt Mendlick.

Cecilia Regan

Cecilia Regan has participated in tennis at Marian for four years. She won Metros in No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles.  She placed second in state in No. 2 singles as a junior.  Along with her team, she has never lost a dual during her time at Marian. She is a class officer and active in Campus Ministry as a Retreat Leader. She also represented Marian on the mission trip to the Dominican Republic.  Cecilia intends to attend Marquette and study Business Administration on the Pre-Law track.  Her parents are Tiffany and Kevin Regan.


Track/Field

Mary Ambrose

Mary Ambrose is a two-year track and field team member who also competed in Cross Country. In track, she runs the 2-mile and 1-mile. She is active in journalism as the Network copy editor and is an award-winning writer.  Mary is a member of the Running Club and has been honored by the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society.  She has been a writer tutor in the Sr. Marcella writing lab.  Mary intends to attend Creighton or St. Louis University. Her parents are Jean and Jim Ambrose.

Audrey Arthur

Audrey Arthur has been on the track and field team for four years, currently throwing shot put and discus. She played volleyball during her freshman and sophomore years and was on the inaugural wrestling team as a junior, winning the NSAA All-State Academic Award. This winter, Audrey was the manager for the wrestling team.  She was recognized by the College Board as a National Hispanic Recognition Scholar. Audrey is a Type 1 Diabetic and is currently (as of April 1)  the third best shot-put and discus thrower in Marian history and the first Marian thrower to make it to state in about a decade. She will attend the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and study business administration on a pre-health track.  Audrey’s parents are Drs. Jason and Annabel Arthur.

Ella De Smet

Ella DeSmet has been on the track team since her freshman year. She currently runs the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. She has also been an active Cheerleader for three years and played softball. She has been involved in many different clubs in her time at Marian.  She plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and study finance with a minor in international business. Ella’s parents are Michele DeSmet and Chris DeSmet.

Sian Jones

Sian Jones is participating in track for the first time as a senior. She runs sprints and an occasional 400m while also doing long jump. She played volleyball at Marian during her sophomore and freshman year as well as playing club volleyball until her senior year. She’s a member of Diversity Board and a member of Lolo’s Angels as well.  Sian will be attending the University of Nebraska Lincoln and is planning on either majoring in Architecture or Computer Science. Her parents are David and Sunila Jones.

Tamyiah Nielsen

Tamyiah Nielsen has been a track team member all four years.  Her favorite event is the 200m but this year she started Long Jump and enjoys that event, too.  Outside of track, Tamyiah is involved in the Diversity Board, Step Team, Big-Sisters and the Young Medicine Club.  In her earlier years, she was a member of the golf team and the basketball team and also spent time as the basketball team manager.  Tamyiah will be attending Texas Southern University and plans to major in political science and pursue a pre-law track.  Her parents are Philip and Tinya Nielsen.

Gozie Okafor

Gozie Okafor has been on the track team for three years.  Her favorite events are the Triple Jump, 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay.  Outside of track, she is one of the Step Team leaders and participates in Young Medicine Club.  She has committed to the University of Memphis and will major in the health sciences.  Her parents are Nelo and Joe Okafor.

Maggie Stessman

Maggie Stessman is a four year track and field team member. She enjoys running the 100m and 300m hurdles. She has also been involved in volleyball, basketball, and cross country. She was Freshman and Senior Retreat leader and has been honored to be part of National Honor Society, the National English Honor Society, the National Science Honor Society and Rho Kappa, the social studies honor society. Maggie is also a class officer. She plans to study nursing at TCU. Her parents are Jane and Joe Stessman.

Olivia Strako

Olivia Strako has been on the track and field team for four years. She currently runs the 200m, 400m, 4x100m and 4x400m. She also played basketball for three years. She will be running track at Rockhurst University and studying business communications in the fall. Her parents are Jenny and Jon Strako.

Claire Troshnyski

Claire Troshnyski is a three-year member of the track and field team. She runs the 1-mille and the 2-mile. She has lettered in Cross Country, Swimming and Diving every year she’s been on the teams. She has been honored by the National Honor Society.  She will attend TCU and study nursing on an Air Force ROTC program.  Claire’s parents are Theresa and Troy Troshynski.
