Many people use bucket lists to ensure they make the most of their summer. Each year before the beginning of summer, these lists are carefully crafted.
Senior Ximena Perez Silva enjoys making bucket lists because they are “a great way of expressing” goals and aiming toward them, she said. They encourage her to try new things and get out of her comfort zone.
She has made many bucket lists because she enjoys creating them with friends and decorating them by adding photos and glitter.
For this summer, Perez Silva and her best friend have already started their list. This year, she plans to go to concerts, go hiking, take a road trip, and much more! She made this list longer than older ones because she only has “a couple months before college,” she said.
Freshman Syra Qureshi enjoys writing bucket lists because they help her “look forward to events and activities in the future.” They help her step out of her comfort zone and try new things.
Every summer Qureshi crafts the new guide to her great summer. She does this in the hopes that she will “make the most of the summer,” she said. She usually lists “places to visit, different food to try, and different hobbies” to enjoy with friends.
Senior T’Kaia Butler has recently discovered the importance of making a Bucket list. This year will be the first year that she has made one because it is the last summer before her and her friends are all separated and she wants to make sure she makes the most of their time together.

She hopes that by crossing things off her bucket list she “will create more memories and make the most of her summer,” Butler said.
Although summer bucket lists may seem childish, these lists actually help people broaden their horizons so they are not limited by what they know they enjoy. By writing these lists people learn more about themselves and their likes and dislikes.
Bucket lists don’t have to be something you only do during the summer time. Making them year round can help you set goals for yourself and hold yourself accountable.
