Everyone loves free dessert. Throughout the school year there are certain “coupons” that will grant you free dessert at lunch. Learning Services Coordinator, Ms. Priscilla Trecek and the counselors have the ability to give these coupons.

These coupons are not easy to acquire. Trecek or the counselors must have a special reason to give them out. The system is the same for teachers as it was before Mr. Bob Hurtado, the new lunch provider, stepped in.

Mrs. Marsha Kalkowski, a journalism and broadcasting teacher, used to give these coupons as prizes for her students. She used to pay Tim Eoriatti, the old lunch provider, first, and then give out the prepaid coupons. They were numbered and hard to duplicate so that students wouldn’t take advantage of the system.

Today, there are some ways to earn these coupons throughout the year. It’s not often, but they are a treasured prize.

During the summer book read day in August, there was a meeting students had with the counselors. During that meeting, Trecek gave away coupons to the students who could get the most points on their planner. There are also other ways to get these coupons throughout the year.

The counselors gave them out when sophomore students sat at the freshmen assigned tables to help them get their conversations going. Mackenzie Sample, a sophomore, received two, one for each of the days she sat at the lunch table. She said, “I didn’t realize we would be getting something for helping the freshmen. I just wanted to help out.”

Some of the other times you can receive a coupon are: during freshman seminar or if your counselor sees you being kind to others. While there aren’t many opportunities to receive these coupons, they are a gift anyone would be jealous of.
