Rushing in the morning to pack your lunch or waiting in a long line to get your food can be hectic. Sophomore Rosie Sanchez tends to get a hot lunch from school instead of having to pack her own lunch. Sanchez said, “I wouldn’t necessarily prefer the hot lunch, but I also don’t dislike it enough to pack a lunch.” Many students mentioned that they simply do not have enough time to pack a lunch the night before school or the morning of.

Food Services Manager Mr. Bob Hurtado said, “On days like today, with the walking taco, we have more food to prepare because it is one of the days that more people get the school lunches rather than cold lunches.” Students who usually bring cold lunches from home sometimes will get hot lunches from school typically on days when the cafe is serving orange chicken, walking taco, burrito bowl or Marian moms.

Sophomore Cambree Reichmuth said, “I bring cold lunches because sometimes I don’t like the lunch or I feel like bringing my own some days.” Bringing your own lunch allows you to pack your choice of foods. Reichmuth decides to get school lunches when it is Marian Moms lunch, which is similar to other students in the school who bring their own lunches.

In an informal survey with 17 students about cold versus hot lunch, it was discovered that more people get hot lunch more often. It was shown that 13 students get a hot lunch from school and four students usually will bring a cold lunch from home.
