Walking through the lunch line $.75 breadsticks sit tantalizing at the end. People grab one or two to enjoy with their pasta.

“I love the soft texture of the breadsticks, and they are best when warm,” sophomore Violet Christen said.

These beloved breadsticks are a staple of Marian lunches. But how are the breadsticks prepared to be that delicious?

The breadsticks are simple to prepare. They come frozen and are stored in the freezer until needed. The lunch workers will heat up the breadsticks for everyone to enjoy. Garlic butter is drizzled on the top to add an elevated touch to finish off the delicious breadsticks.

This method wasn’t entirely new to the lunch menu. The last lunch provider, Mr. Tim Eoriatti, had been the originator of the famous breadsticks. When the Hurtados came to Marian three years ago, they decided to keep the breadsticks’ method of preparation. “The students loved the breadsticks so there is no need to change something that people already love,” Mr. Bob Hurtado the Food Services Manager, said.

Understanding which foods sell and which don’t is crucial for a school environment. Hurtado has had previous culinary experiences like working in a restaurant and owning a restaurant and food truck to prepare him for being contracted to run a private high school cafeteria.

The breadsticks despite their simplicity are adored and changing their preparation would cause an outrage. So the breadsticks have remained for 24 years and are still enjoyed at lunches today. Whenever a student buys a breadstick they are continuing on the long legacy of the beloved bread.
