Review by J1 Reporter Maeve Filipi
“Little Women” is a heartfelt, empowering, captivating and heartwarming film. The movie has shown me many things on how to build strong relationships and the importance of family. “Little Women” is in the coming of age genre and is set during the time of the American Civil War. The book was originally published in 1868 and made into a movie in 1933. In 2019 a new version of “Little Women” directed by Greta Gerwig was released. There are four sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy March where they all grow up and a cute house in Massachusetts with their mother, Marmee.
This movie is about each sister having their own personal identities and dreams. Jo is an inspiring writer, Meg who dreams of having a wonderful family and a traditional life. Beth is gentle and kind and Amy, the youngest, is ambitious and graceful. The movie portrays their childhood leading to their adult life and the movie does a good job on going back-and-forth on both aspects of the sister’s lives. There comes a lot of sadness and love that is shown throughout “Little Women.”

The first time I watched this movie was with my family when it first came out in 2019. I was taken away by the amazing acting, and everyone in the movie played their part well. I was intrigued while watching the film and wanted to keep on watching. There was good acting and it was funny but yet sad, a lot of laughter but some tears. I liked all the characters and did not dislike any of them and their roles. I liked the soundtrack of “Little Women” and especially the scenery in the movie.
I enjoyed it and the length of the film was not too long or short for me. The script was good and not overdone at all. As I watched the movie, certain scenes had a certain impact and meaning to it. One thing that I loved about “Little Women” was how it portrayed sisterhood, family and being a woman.
Overall, the ending was well done and even with a hard and deep loss, the family still came together, and showed love with one another which really touched me. I definitely recommend “Little Women” for everyone and the empowerment the film expresses.
