Leaving home for most people can be a difficult experience, but some look past the challenge and are grateful for the memories they were able to make. Since 1963, Sister Jackie Thorn has been a part of the Servite Community, has contributed to many different ministries, most recently Campus Ministry and the empowerment of Marian students every day.
Unfortunately, many of the Sisters have been moving out of the Servite Motherhouse next to the Marian campus for different reasons — one being because of financial challenges. The moving process is still continuing at a slow and steady pace.
“I think the most difficult part, which I understand, is the fact that we had to give up our Motherhouse,” Thorn said.
To make things easier for Thorn, she packed everything that she needed and had a positive attitude while moving from the Convent Motherhouse to Immanuel senior living facilities.
“The preparation was in your heart. Yes this was happening, and I can either be really negative about it or embrace it…this has to be done so might as well make the best of it,” Thorn said.
After her moving process, she got to make new friends and enjoy the new faces she met. “Everybody says hi to everybody,” she said.
Wendy Memming, the Wellness Manager at the Immanuel communities, welcomes the sisters by helping to prepare rooms and seeing what’s available to them. “It’s nice to see new faces,” Memming said.
